Bob Marley: One Love (2024)

I thought it was odd they removed Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh from the film. Plus they only touched on his career from 1976 until his death in 1981. They may have began touching on his career from 1976 to avoid mentioning Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer for some reason. I just didn't understand how do you write out two prominent band members that were apart of his life and career? They barely touched on Marley's early life or career beginnings, which would be pretty vague to someone who may not know much about his life. His documentary Marley was more in-depth and reading up on his life for more clarity would help. I also did not like how the film ended. I will say this was the standard biopic, although it felt sanitized and vague. Also, they didn't go into his Rastafarian beliefs or the origins of Rastafari, etc. I feel like they sort of made it about peace, love and smoking weed. The woman we saw in the background I guess was alluding to one of his women outside of his marriage that they only showed glimpses of. They only brought it up during an argument scene between Bob and his wife Rita. As a fan, I also would've liked them to have delved more into the political messages in his music and the connection to his Rastafari beliefs. After viewing, I'd rate this film a 6.5 out of 10. I particularly enjoyed Lashana Lynch's performance as Rita Marley.
