G20 (Dir. Patricia Riggen, Amazon Studios, 2025)
In G20 from Amazon Studios, Viola Davis plays President Danielle Sutton and is supported by Marsai Martin, Anthony Anderson, and Julius Tennon. She and her staff are responsible for thwarting a terrorist threat at G20 summit in South Africa after coming under seige.
I thought the film was heavy on the action, which made sense due it to being a thriller, much like other political thrillers like White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen. I thought it was interesting twist on the political action-thriller as the lead is not only president but action hero of the story as well. I know it's not supposed to be realistic but I was wondering where her Secret Service was during all of the fighting since Sutton is president in the film.
Upon watching, I assumed that President Sutton, played by Davis, was the primary target for the terrorists I suppose due to Sutton wanting to fund the farmers in South Africa with digital currency. Throughout watching it, I wasn't exactly sure what the reason for them taking over the G20 summit. Also felt that the storyline with the daughter was not developed enough. I felt that the supposed tension that was brought up earlier in the film could've been touched on more although it was brought back up again towards the end, but overall it was a decent actoon-thriller to watch.
