Extraction (Dir. Sam Hargrave, Netflix, 2020)

Chris Hemsworth stars as a mercenary saving a kidnapped child of an international crime lord.

The film begins with a brief gun fight  embroiled in a battle of blood shed and is seen fighting for his life after being shot. We are then taken to Mumbai, India where we see three teenagers on their way home from school and eventually meeting up at a glossy nightclub. After going outside for a smoke, one of Ovi's (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) friends is shot in the head by an officer.

Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a black market mercenary who is tasked with finding the kidnapped son of an international crime lord and diffusing black market arms dealing in India. Despite the film's action packed scenes, I found it to be all over the place and having skipped around without any consistency.

The viewer is taken on a blank of wanderlust, getting to explore different beautiful countries and landscapes from the comfort of their home. Despite being faced with such a life threatening task, he manages to remain calm and collected throughout his endeavor.

Rake dives into a lake and is seen sitting in a blank position underwater and having a vision of what is assumed to be a child. This image appears in short bursts throughout the film, but I still did not get the context of it until the film was practically over.

I felt the writing was not paced well enough and did not get a sense of what was going on until almost halfway through the film. The plot and direction kept bouncing all over the place. I found the action to be nonsensical at parts as I  didn't understand how they were still walking around after falling off buildings, jumping out of cars, stabbed, getting shot at and being hit by trucks, only to sustain somewhat minor injuries.

If one is a lover of action films, this may pique their interest, but for me it was poorly paced and lacked consistency. I would rate this a 5 out of 10.
