The Old Guard (Dir. Gina Prince-Blythewood, Netflix, 2020)
The four are ambushed by soldiers during what they believed to have been a raid to rescue a group of kidnapped girls. After regenerating, they realize they were set up by Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) for evidence to send to lab company Merrick.
They communicate with other immortals through dreams in which they discover another Nile Freeman (Kiki Layne) a US Marine, who is out on a tour in Afghanistan. During a blank, her throat is cut in which she recovers without a scratch. She is then outed by her fellow soldiers and required to go to a Germany for further testing. She is then saved by Andy and the other immortals. Their secret is uncovered by Copley after he shows the surveillance footage from the ambush to pharmacy exec, which they then use to capture the group. In order to evade capture, the group fly to France and hide out. Nile sees a vision of another immortal Quynh, who was one of Andy's comrades that was an iron maiden cast at sea.
The group is ambushed once again and are taken back to the US by Merrick's team. Andy is injured during the ambush where she realizes she has begun to lose her immortality. Niles realizes Booker (Schoenaerts) has sold out the group and asks Copley for assistance in fighting back, in which they storm the pharmaceutical office.
The film was well paced and had plenty of entertaining action packed scenes. Also, had great performances from Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne, respectively. The plot was also well written and fresh.
I rate this an 9 out of 10. I would've rated it higher had I been able to see it theaters, which was my only critique of the film.
